Honey is not only a delicious treat, but also an insanely healthy substance, with numerous health and beauty remedies. Cleopatra used it in her skin care routine, and some historians even associate honey with ambrosia, which was the presumed sustenance of the ancient Greek gods. Nonetheless, there is nothing divine about this substance. It is merely a mixture of sugar, minerals, vitamins, trace enzymes and amino acids. Depending on the nearby flowers that the bees feed on, honey can come in hundreds of varieties. Among these numerous varieties, the orange blossom variety is one of the most prized types of honey, due to its rich and delicate flavor. Moreover, as you are about to discover, this variety is very healthy and it can be used in numerous ways.

Properties

All types of honey have similar properties, but depending on the flowers that contributed to its production, different varieties can have special properties. Orange blossom honey is best known for its antimicrobial action, as well as for its ability to soothe an upset stomach, a sore throat and many types of respiratory infections. It also stimulates the appetite, it is a great source of vitamins and antioxidants, and it is great for the skin health. Moreover, unlike other types of honey, the orange blossom variety has a lower pollen content, so it is less likely to cause allergic reactions.

The best ways to use it

This variety can make for a great table honey. It has a light color and a mild flavor, with subtle hints of citrus. It can be used for cooking or for numerous beauty remedies.

Culinary uses– If you plan on cooking with it, orange blossom honey can be used as a sweetener in most types of baked goods. It is particularly good in madeleine and cheesecake recipes. This type of honey also goes well in sweet and salty combinations. It can also be a finishing touch for steak, ribs or other meat dishes.
Beauty remedies – All types of honey are good for promoting the skin health due to their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Moreover, orange blossoms are also great for the skin, being frequently used in toners. As you can imagine, when you put these two ingredients together, you get a great beauty remedy. The easiest way to use it is to simply apply a thick layer of honey on the face and allow it to work its magic for 15 minutes. It is particularly good for sensitive skin. You can also mix it with milk to obtain an all-natural face lotion. You can also make an orange blossom honey water for everyday use. Just mix two parts of honey with one part water.
