Decorating any space in your home can be a deeply personal journey, and with proper planning, you can create a space that reflects you perfectly. Think about what colors you are looking to incorporate into the space and really brainstorm before beginning the designing process so that you have an idea of what you want in your space to make it the cozy and inviting space that you envision. So join me and let’s learn how to decorate your bedroom to perfectly capture the results you want and all at a price that will leave you thinking “Why did I not do this sooner?”.

Declutter

Decluttering your bedroom is not a decoration tip per se, but it’s an essential first step to working on any room in your home and especially the bedroom. You need to clean it and organize it so that you have a clean palette to work with. Decluttering your space is a solid place to start when trying to figure out what you truly need to and don’t need to do plus it’s also the perfect way to organize your bedroom too which is refreshing all in itself. The way I see it…. when you declutter your space you are also decluttering your mind. This process will make it very easy to see what needs to be kept and what needs to be purged or donated.

Having less clutter in your bedroom is everything as you will find that you have more control of your space and what comes in and out of it. With a clean space you will be able to showcase your personality perfectly when deciding on how to decorate your room.

Paint

Now that you have a clean and organized space, it is time to decide on your color palette for the space. Once you have an idea of your color scheme, whether it be bright and bold colors or a neutral color palette….. give your walls a fresh coat of paint. You can also create a feature wall at this point that may be a different color than the rest of the walls. This feature wall is the perfect place to feature your bed so that it’s the main focal point of the bedroom space and so that it grabs your attention when walking into the room.

Headboard

If you do not already have the perfect bed or headboard for your bedroom space to work with, finding the perfect headboard that is reasonably priced all while looking luxurious, is essential to the bedroom decorating process. Why is this you ask? Well the bed is the central focus point of any bedroom so finding a beautiful and luxurious headboard all while not breaking the bank is a necessity. I love a well made fabric tufted headboard as it is the easy way to provide your space with that luxurious look that you want all while being the savvy decorating option as they can be reasonably priced. You can find all kinds of headboard options online that can be shipped straight to your door for the ultimate in convenience too.

Bedding

The second most important item on my list for decorating your bedroom, is finding the perfect bedding set to suit your tastes. Once you have picked out your color palette for your new bedroom, you can purchase a new comforter set for your bedroom or reuse your current comforter and simply invest in a new duvet set to transform it. I absolutely love duvets as you can change up the look of your space at a fraction of the cost as compared to buying a new comforter set.

You will also want to ensure that you have amazing sheets to use with your new bedding. Sheets are everything to ensuring your best nights sleep, so investing in a good set or two to use in your newly designed room are essential. I also recommend lots of pillows and throw pillows too as they make the bed inviting and luxurious looking.

Wall Art

You may be wondering how you can make your room look even more inviting and luxurious?! Well in come pictures, mirrors and any other form of art that you choose to add to your space. It’s important to find something that you truly like and that speaks to your personal style and tastes and keep in mind that you don’t have to spend a fortune to do this. You can shop at thrift stores, antique shops, and even garage sales to find the perfect pieces to add to your space. You can even get creative and make your own art too. Simply buy some paints and canvases and have some fun!

It’s important to remember when adding art to your space to not to worry too much about the artwork being the perfect match. Art is supposed to stand out. Another popular art option for bedrooms are the trendy new customized neon signs that can be added to any room for a fun and modern approach on design. I also love a nice large mirror as mirrors are the perfect way to make a smaller room look and feel larger.

Area Rugs & Accessories

It’s the accessories in any space that make a room pop. This is where you can imagine the space and think of what it is that you want throughout. Maybe you want a soft and cozy area rug to walk on each morning when you wake up. It’s the little things like this that can make any morning extra special. When deciding on a rug for your space, make sure to do the appropriate measurements so that the bed sits perfectly within the rug, with at least 2 to 3 feet of overhang on each side.

You can also add texture and ambience to your bedroom by adding things like fabulous curtains, throw blankets, throw pillows, pillow covers and even plants.

Nature & Fragrance

Another way to decorate your space without breaking the bank is by using your senses. I am a huge fan of fragrance…. it makes a home more inviting, warm and fabulous and the same holds true for every room in your home. You can accomplish this by using candles, aromatherapy, reed diffusers and even incense throughout your bedroom. I personally love wax melts as they release fabulous fragrance throughout any space that I use them in and all without having to burn a wick.

I also love adding plants to every room in my home and especially the bedroom as plants are nature’s natural air purifiers. This means that not only do the plants add that perfect pop of color and life into your space, but they will also be cleaning the air in your bedroom each and every day too. Plants are the perfect way to bring nature into the space making it serene and spa like. You can find easy to care for plants too…. think a Snake plant, pathos and succulents or Cacti name a few. You can place them throughout your space on accent wall shelves, nightstands, bedside tables, vanity and dresser.

Customize The Space For You

The goal of redecorating your bedroom space is to make it cozy and functional and a space that you love and cherish. Depending on what you are looking to accomplish, this could include investing in new furniture or refinishing older pieces to refurbish them, brightening up the area with proper lighting and by adding the perfect color palette that creates the sanctuary of your dreams. You may want to invest in windows treatments that accentuate the amount of natural light that you get into the space each day or you can also invest in LED lighting which can brighten your space all while being energy-efficient.

When it comes to decorating your bedroom, ensuring that it reflects your personality and style is crucial. Whether you are looking to go with bold bright colors or are looking for more of a subtle calming atmosphere, there are tons of options available to make your bedroom a place that you want to always be in. By choosing the perfect colors, furniture, and accents that perfectly capture your style, you can create a space that is inviting and uniquely you. With a little planning and creativity, you can truly make your bedroom your private sanctuary.

You are correct, you need to consider the color scheme, layout, furniture, lighting, storage, and accessories that suit your style and needs. You also need to plan for simple circulation, balance, harmony, and comfort in your bedroom, and avoid common layout dilemmas such as overcrowding, underutilizing, or mismatching the space.

I love interior design. I think a bedroom should be like a little sanctuary, so definitely decluttered and clean, with lovely looking soft bedding, some plants and some lovely art on the walls.

Great suggestions for creating the perfect bedroom. I do agree, rugs can make a great addition to a bedroom and can really add to the appearance of the room. A scented candle can also be a great addition and help keep a room smelling fresh.

It’s so surprising how much of a difference a headboard can make in your room! De-clutter, paint, accessorize with area rugs and furnishings but the headboard makes for a nice break in texture and color and it doesn’t always come to mind as something you can utilize to customize your space.
