Eating Well During Exam Time: What to Eat to Improve Your Chance of Success

Exams can be stressful, whether you are attending school at a traditional university or working towards an online master in liberal studies degree. With so much information to remember and the stress of papers and tests weighing down, there are some foods that have been shown to help improve focus and concentration. These foods range from chocolate to fruit, and all can assist you in remembering the things you need to remember, while also increasing your health.

Fruits and Vegetables

Fruits and vegetables have featured in multiple studies, showing that eating more of them can help increase focus. With a variety of vitamins, antioxidants, and fiber, there are lots of reasons to love kale and spinach. Blueberries are also often called a superfood because they are said to improve concentration and memory because of the antioxidants. These increase the blood flow and oxygen that is traveling to the brain. Avocados are said to be similarly wonderful, with an addition of fiber as well.

Grains

Grains provide fiber and vitamins, as well as other natural products that help increase focus. Flax, nuts, and whole grains all help quite a bit, while also replacing heavily processed foods. These are a healthier carb option, allowing you to enjoy your favorite comfort food while remaining healthy and alert.

Beverages

If you are working toward a degree, whether an online MALS degree at a school like Rutgers Online or a program in a traditional brick and mortar campus, you might be aware of the drink that is coffee. Some studies show that coffee can increase concentration and help keep you alert, but there are varying reports. Other beverages, like green tea, are also said to help increase focus. Containing less caffeine than coffee, there is less of a chance for a caffeine crash later. It is also crucial to drink plenty of water. This helps keep you hydrated and leads to better focus and health as a result.

Chocolate

When it comes to sweets, there are few options outside of fruit, and sometimes when you are part of an online master in liberal studies program, fruit and kale are not quite enough. Luckily, there is a delicious solution. Dark chocolate is like green tea in that it has some caffeine, but not enough to cause a caffeine crash later. Studies also show that eating dark chocolate can help reduce stress and improve your mood, as well as help you become more alert. Chocolate, once again, has proven to be a magical, wonderful food.

Fish

Providing an impressive array of omega-3 fatty acids, eating fish is a healthy and delicious way to eat well during exams. Omega-3s can help improve memory and the brain’s functioning abilities. They can also help your mood improve, something that is important all the time, but especially during exams. Cheerfulness sometimes can be the best way to help remember things and not be stressed, and fish can help achieve that.

While all these foods have been shown in studies to help increase concentration and are healthy foods to eat during exams and all year round, it is important to remember to eat them in moderation.
