Why We Created a Read-Along Version of Our Children’s Book
I created a read-along version of my book, Tiki Time: It’s My Turn, to bring this fun adventure to life for kids! When I originally wrote the book and the art was being created for the book, I felt an overwhelming joy when I first saw the art created by the Fates animation team. And that translated to the young readers as well when they first read the book. We got an immense amount of feedback on how beautiful the story and art were and how much kids enjoyed the book. And parents loved the underlying themes of the book about building self-confidence, friendship, the true meaning of character & integrity, and teaching kids to think about their own behavior and how it affects others. So I wanted to create a similar experience with the read-along video for the kids. And I had such a blast recording this read-along video and working with such a wonderful production team. The creative process to bring this all together was amazing! And the end result was this story really coming to life in a multi-sensory experience.
And that is what makes this book unique for kids. When they are reading the paperback version, the art and story by themselves really draw the young reader in and gets them thinking creatively as the story carries on. But the read-along video adds another special element to the book. As the narrator, myself, tells the story in the video read-along, they can feel the plot build up and feel the depth of the main character, Tiki, as he embarks on the quest and develops and grows throughout the story.
And the read-along video really becomes a tool parents and children can use to complement and support the reading experience. There are many benefits to having a read-along video to accompany a book. It can improve listening skills, provide reading support, improve focus, and improve critical thinking. The goal with the video is to create an even more magical experience when the child is reading the book while providing support.
