ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Award-winning author, Alysson Foti Bourque, began her career as a teacher after graduating from the University of Louisiana Lafayette with a degree in Elementary Education. She earned a Juris Doctor law degree from the Southern University Law Center in 2007 and was honored to serve her state as Asst. Attorney General for 8 years. In 2016, Alysson began writing children’s books, including the Alycat Series and the Rhyme or Reason Travel Series. Alysson founded Expound Publicity to help authors market their books and was a news contributor for tv segments KidLit Picks and BookEnds.

MY REVIEW

Are you looking for a new book to add to your child’s book collection? If so…. you have to check out Alycat and the Copycat which is the newest book in the Alycat Series. The lesson learned in this one is everything and I love Alysson’s writing style and the wonderful tales that she creates. Reading her books is so much fun and my kids always love the stories that the Alycat Series books provides. This new addition…. Alycat and the Copycat is a wonderful read and basically it’s about Alycat and her Magically Explosive Volcano that she is taking with her to school for the science fair. When she gets onto the bus to head to school with her science project…..she realizes that one of her friends, Lucy has on her same favorite t shirt & that she has also taken Alycat’s regular seat on the bus. Because of this Alycat decides to take a seat with her best friend Spotty…. and tell him all about Lucy the copycat. After she vets to Spotty all about Lucy’s copycat ways…. he tells her its no big deal and maybe she ‘thinks your trendy’. Regardless…. Alycat’s a bit bothered but goes along with her day once she gets to school and gets ready to showcase her project. Upon opening their boxes Alycat sees that Lucy also built a volcano! Now she is really upset and more determined than ever to win. As each of the students works to get their projects ready to display for the judges….Alycat panics when she realizes that she does not have the much-needed ingredient Baking Soda which is needed for her Volcano project to be a success. To her surprise…. Lucy sees that Alycat is panicking and she asks how she can help. Alycat tells her that her baking soda is missing and Lucy helps her out by giving her some of hers. Alycat then realizes Lucy is not so bad and that in actuality….. Lucy is a lifesaver and Alycat feels bad for being frustrated with Lucy earlier that day. They all have their projects judged and Alycat ends up winning first place with Lucy coming in second place. When Alycat goes to give her speech for being the top winner…. she decides to thank Lucy for saving the day and swaps trophies with her… giving Lucy the 1st place trophy! I also love that the author includes the science experiment at the end of the book so that my kids can try and recreate the Volcano! This is a great life lesson for little ones and the perfect addition to anything child’s reading collection.
