10 Ways to Cope with Anxiety

It’s very hard to live with anxiety. Have a constant wait on your chest telling you that things are wrong even when they are not wrong it’s hard. Millions of people just like you struggle with anxiety every single day and they find ways to be relieved of that feeling. It’s not easy to control and it’s not easy to admit that you need help, but when your anxiety is through the roof it’s one of the best things that you can do for yourself. Regardless of how you reach that inner peace, you should be looking to find a way that makes sense for you. Your anxiety can only be soothed when you can figure out how to do it.

*Learn to control your breathing. Taking lessons in controlling your breathing will help you to reduce your heart rate and prevent the squeeze on your chest when you feel like things are out of control. Severe anxiety symptoms often lead to poor breathing habits, and you may not even realize that you are holding your breath. Breathe slowly and gently through your nose for around 5 to 7 seconds and hold it for 3 to 4 seconds. Then breathe that out slowly through payslips as if you obviously. This will prevent you from hyperventilating and it will help you to regulate the CO2 balance in your body.

*Find somebody to talk to. If you are scared to burden family and friends with your worries and panic, you need a professional. There is no shame in seeking the help of a therapist or helpline to help you to get through the worst moments of your panic – and even before that happens. Talking to friendly and empathetic people can keep your mind off your symptoms, and the supportive nature of somebody else can also boost your confidence and make you feel like you’ve done the right thing. *Move your body. Part of the battle with anxiety is that it builds adrenaline into your body very quickly. If you can burn off this adrenaline with repeated movement, you will feel less panicky and more able to control yourself. Putting that adrenaline to good use with the activity can be a wonderful way to improve your anxiety and get your body moving. Exercise burns away your stress and helps you to release endorphins in your brain which can make you feel good. Even a fast walk in nature or a light jog on a treadmill will help.

*Learn what relaxes you. You already know that there are things in your life that can help you to feel more relaxed, and if you can make sure that these come to the forefront of your mind, it can help you to figure out what will help and lean on those in times of trauma. Anxiety is trauma for the body, and if you notice anxiety is rising then turning into these activities will help. Distracting your mind with drawing or artwork is a great way to help as sinking into a bath.

*Look into essential oils and aromatherapy. Essential oils are the extracts from plants, and you can diffuse these through your home. When you breathe in these essential oils you will be able to make sure that your anxiety dissipates very quickly. *Learn to question your own anxiety. Anxiety doesn’t happen out of the blue. You can control these thoughts by learning to dismiss the triggers that cause you to feel anxious. Of course, this is so much easier said than done but there are plenty of techniques out there that can help you to do this.

*Create a playlist. Sometimes, music can have a powerful effect on your mood and all the anxiety you are feeling. It’s not just about choosing the songs that you like but making sure that you’re listening to songs that can directly help your mood. You can listen to music that will keep you calm and there are plenty of playlists on Spotify and other streaming sites that can help. Calming music helps to slow down your heart rate and your breathing and help you to find a sense of space.

*Teach yourself some grounding techniques. From progressive muscle relaxation to scanning your body to feel where it hurts the most, you can ensure that you lessen your symptoms of anxiety. There are two popular methods to ground yourself and we’ve just listed them above, but these are techniques that can help you to send to yourself in that moment and remind yourself there’s nothing to be afraid of.

*Cuddle up with somebody that you love. Whether it’s a parent, a friend or a lover, you need to be close to somebody else to help you to let those feelings of anxiety dissipate. Releasing some of your energy with a conversation or simply laughing together, will help you to feel less anxious and happier as a result.
