Publisher’s Book Summary: A girl tackles a summer filled with mystery, treasure, and learning to be her true self in this middle grade adventure that’s a modern-day Holes set on a dusty dude ranch in Montana.
Becca Soloway’s perfect summer goes up in smoke when her mom flees a looming divorce by dragging Becca to a Montana resort. To make matters worse, her mom’s hasty booking lands them not at a spa, but an aging dude ranch called Far Away.
Becca is miserable until she meets the wrangler’s son, Jon, who shows her what might be the first clue to a century-old mystery: the lost treasure of a Robin Hood–like outlaw known as Pearlhandle Pete.
As they slowly uncover the true history of Pete, venture into the mountains, search haunted ghost towns, and are threatened by a treasure-hunter-social-media star, Becca discovers that treasure is in the eye of the beholder and the important things in life are always worth fighting for.

MY REVIEW
I am absolutely loving The Mystery of Mystic Mountain and find it a fabulous read for young readers. It is perfect for ages 11 and up and my daughter would have loved this book when she was in middle school. The story is about Becca who is about to turn 13 and going through those find yourself years that are impressionable beyond imagination. This book is perfect for kiddos of that age group as it reminds you of what is important versus trying to be someone that you aren’t. I do not want to give too much away with this book BUT I will say I love the authors descriptive writing style as I can perfectly envision the various scenes while reading about Far Away Ranch and Becca and Jon’s adventures. Becca thought that the trip would be a disaster as Far Away Ranch is not the spa like resort she thought that her and her mom were going too but after venturing out and meeting people that are at the Ranch too….she sets out on adventures and more with her new friend Jon who works at Far Away Ranch. I love all of the characters that you need throughout the book and I just love the story so much! Definitely a must read for any child 11 and up and honestly…I am loving it as a grown adult so it’s perfect for any age. If you love a good mystery and adventure story…… The Mystery of Mystic Mountain is the perfect book for you!

This sounds like a good book to read. I’ve been divorced twice and it’s the hardest thing I’ve ever been through. I like that people share stories about divorce because usually they aren’t glamorous or easy. It’s like a person died but they are still alive.
Janet S. Fox
Yes. And Becca’s struggling with that exactly. Thanks so much for sharing, Christy.
