LED Lighting vs. Regular Lightbulbs

When lightbulbs first emerged onto the scene, they were essentially synonymous with being simple.  This is because light bulbs were just that, light bulbs.  However, with the technology that has evolved from the original lightbulb, they are not going to be much more involved in regard to choosing the type of lightbulb that is right for you.  As the technology has evolved, the number of different styles of lightbulbs has evolved as well.

From the lightbulbs that have been designed to react when they hear a sound, to the bulbs that are designed to help fight off different types of deadly bacteria, how we use the device that was designed to simply help improve your lighting is continually evolving.  But when it comes to needing a bulb to help light up your living room, how are you supposed to know which one is going to be the best option for you?  When it comes to simply lighting your home or yard, you are more than likely going to want a bulb that is not only good for the environment, but that will help you to lower your electric utility bill as well.

While you have the option to choose from halogen, compact fluorescent, and incandescent bulbs, each of these varieties is going to require a certain amount of energy to operate at optimal levels.  However, when it comes to LED (Light Emitting Diode) bulbs, they are going to be something that you should seriously consider using.  Here is everything that you need to know about LED lights compared to regular lightbulbs.

What Exactly are LED Lights?

LED is going to stand for Light Emitting Diode and are actually not technically going to be considered a ‘bulb’.  Instead, they are actually tiny diodes, or semiconductors, that have been wrapped in plastic to help protect them from the elements, as well as to better focus their light.  What makes LED lights much different than a ‘regular’ light bulb, is going to be the fact that an LED light from this website does not have any wire filaments like regular light bulbs do.

How are LED Lights Different from an Incandescent Bulb?

Whenever you are talking about a ‘regular’ lightbulb, it is going to mean a bulb that is incandescent, or the kind of bulb that has been around since it was originally invented in 1879 by Thomas Edison.  Each of these bulbs are going to have different filaments that will glow when charged with energy, putting of both light and heat.

LEDs on the other hand, are going to have electrons that will flow in order to create photons, or lights that you can see.  What makes LEDs more effective than the regular lightbulb, is going to be the fact that photons are not going to generate any type of heat at all, meaning that they are going to require less energy.  It is this fact that will allow LED lights to use over 75% less energy when compared to regular light bulbs.
