I am excited to share my review of Light of the World which will be in theaters tomorrow on September 5th! It is one not to be missed and if you happen to be a fan of the 1990s golden era of 2D, hand-drawn animation, you are most definitely going to enjoy this one. This is the first movie from Salvation Poem Project, a ministry committed to sharing Jesus with the world and you seriously will not want to miss this one as it’s perfect for the entire family and the kids will love it.

Synopsis:

This beautiful, 2D-animated story of Jesus is told through the eyes of his young friend, the Apostle John. From the beginning of Jesus’ ministry through his crucifixion and resurrection, LIGHT OF THE WORLD powerfully illustrates how Jesus of Nazareth changed the world forever and still changes lives today!

I love this movie so much! Watching Light of the World felt like stepping into a storybook I’d heard my whole life, but seeing it with fresh, new eyes. The hand-drawn animation has this warm, classic feel, almost like something from my childhood that makes the Gospel story both approachable and moving. I loved how the film tells the story through young John, because it gave me the sense of discovering Jesus right alongside him, with all the wonder, curiosity, and even confusion that comes with it. It’s lighthearted in places, surprisingly funny at times, and yet it doesn’t shy away from the harder parts of Christ’s life, handling them in a way that’s powerful without being overwhelming. My kids stayed engaged the whole time, and afterwards we actually had some really thoughtful conversations about what they saw—which, honestly, is the biggest win for me. I definitely recommend seeing this one in theaters if you can; it’s a beautiful experience to share as a family.
