ABOUT THE AUTHOR

When Karen Henrich isn’t wandering through the woods with Benny, Remy, Ruby, and Mabel—at least in her imagination—you’ll often find her behind a camera, photographing some incredibly brave children and their families in California children’s hospitals.

Karen lives in Northern California’s San Francisco Bay Area with her husband, Scott. When they’re not working, they love packing up their bulldog Mabel (and now you know where one of the character names came from!) and heading out on road-trip adventures in their Airstream, which they named Fiddlesticks. Along the way, they cook (well, Scott cooks—Karen is much better at watching), hike, explore, and spend lots of nights laughing around the campfire.

Karen is also the very proud mom of two grown sons, who somehow managed to find two pretty wonderful wives. She loves stories, photographs, adventures, family, and finding a little magic in unexpected places—which may explain how four woodland friends ended up taking her on an adventure of their own. And she’s so happy they did.

When Jordan Foster isn’t bringing Benny, Remy, Ruby, and Mabel to life on the page, she’s usually creating something else. By day, Jordan is a graphic designer at Warner Bros. Discovery. Brave Like Me is her first children’s book.

MY REVIEW

Every once in a while, a children’s book comes along that completely steals your heart, and Brave Like Me by Karen Henrich is one of those books! I absolutely adore this book, and I love it so much! It is such a sweet, heartwarming story that reminds us how important courage, friendship, and believing in ourselves can be, even when things feel a little scary.

This charming story follows four woodland friends… Benny Bear, Remy Raccoon, Ruby Rabbit, and Mabel Mouse… as they encounter something mysterious that leaves them feeling frightened. Through their adventure, these adorable characters discover an important lesson about being brave and facing the unknown together. I love how the story delivers such a meaningful message in a gentle, engaging way that little ones can understand and relate to.

One of my favorite things about this book is its reminder that being brave doesn’t mean you aren’t afraid; it means finding the courage to keep going even when you are! I think this is such a wonderful lesson for children, especially as they navigate new experiences, make friends, and face the little challenges that come with growing up. The charming woodland characters, delightful rhyming story, and lovely illustrations make this an extra-special reading experience, too!

I can easily see Brave Like Me becoming one of those favorite books that children ask to hear over and over again. It is perfect for bedtime reading, storytime with the family, or simply snuggling up together with a wonderful book. I also think it would make a thoughtful gift for birthdays, holidays, or any occasion when you want to give a child something meaningful.

My final thoughts? I LOVE this book and cannot recommend it enough! Brave Like Me by Karen Henrich is a heartwarming, engaging children’s book with a beautiful message that will stay with little readers long after the last page. If you are looking for a sweet story to share with the special children in your life, this one is a must-have! It truly makes the perfect addition to any child’s book collection.
