6 Useful Tips to Reverse Signs of Aging Around the Eyes

Eyes are one of the first places where visible signs of aging start to appear because the delicate skin in the area is extremely thin and contains little subcutaneous fat tissue (which is under the skin). Collagen and elastin start to decline with age, resulting in lines and wrinkles and making the area with collagen loss more suspectable to external factors.

Some other reasons for signs of aging around the eyes include genetics, sun damage, and lifestyle habits. Fortunately, you can reverse some signs of aging by using the proper methods.

1. Get a Blepharoplasty

A blepharoplasty, also known as an eyelid lift or surgery, can reverse many signs of aging as it can reduce your under eye bags, eliminate the appearance of wrinkles, and remove the heaviness of the eyelid. You can get upper eye blepharoplasty, lower eye blepharoplasty, or both, depending on your aesthetic goals.

The procedure removes excess skin on the eyelid when performed on the upper eye and corrects the bags under the eyes when performed on the lower eye. Both treatments play a critical role in reducing the signs of aging and can help you achieve younger-looking eyes.

2. Use an Effective Eye Cream

Look for an eye cream that offers hydrating, firming, and brightening powers to slow down the signs of aging. Since it is a delicate area, using high-quality products will maximize benefits. Apply the eye cream in the morning and night to rejuvenate your skin and reduce the risk of developing signs of aging.

3. Stay Hydrated Inside Out

Hydration is essential to keep signs of aging away from your eyes. Drink plenty of water all the time, and use a moisturizer to keep the skin moist. Poor blood circulation can contribute to puffiness in the eyes, which you can avoid by drinking water as water consumption improves blood circulation.

4. Avoid Frequent Sun Exposure

Exposure to sunlight is one of the leading causes of aging, and since the skin under the eyes is the thinnest, it will show visible signs of aging before the rest of your face. To keep your eyes from aging rapidly, avoid frequent sun exposure. When you go in the sun, make sure to apply sunscreen with at least SPF 30 to create a carrier between your skin and the sun.

5. Say Goodbye to Smoking

Smoking can contribute to signs of aging around the eyes in a few ways. The nicotine causes blood vessels to narrow, which reduces oxygen flow and nutrients to skin cells. While smoking, repetitive squinting and lip pursing can also lead to lines around the eyes and mouth. In addition, many chemicals trigger molecular events that damage components necessary for skin elasticity.

6. Purchase a Humidifier

Consistent exposure to dry air can lead to the appearance of wrinkles and other signs of aging. A humidifier can protect your skin by creating a barrier between the dryness in the air and your skin. Using a humidifier, especially during winter, will allow the air to remain moist, allowing you to enjoy hydrated skin.

Addressing the appearance of aging in the eye can transform how you look and help you achieve the confidence you deserve. Use the tips above to rejuvenate your skin.
