4 Ways to Boost Your Car Security
Cars are one of the most expensive things that we will ever buy, so naturally, we want to make sure they are protected.
When you’ve got insurance, you’re covered in the event of a break-in, theft or totaled vehicle, but this still causes a lot of inconveniences and is going to affect your premiums. However, there are ways you can boost your car security and deter thieves.
Park in Secure Locations
One of the things you can do to help protect your car is to park in a secure location. If there is a choice between a shady side street with no lighting or a multi-storey car park with security cameras, it’s worth paying a little extra for the latter.
If you make it easy for thieves to target your car, then it’s much more likely they will, it is that simple. It might be a slight inconvenience to search out more secure parking, but it’s worth it for the peace of mind if nothing more.
If you do not have a garage, or safe spot to park on at home, then it can be a great idea to look at a portable carport to add some extra security to your parking spot.
Secure Your Car Keys
As soon as we get through the door, the first thing we do is throw our car keys down. However, if you are putting them down in sight of people who might be on the lookout for nefarious opportunities, then you’re going to tempt them into targeting your car.
Once someone has access to your keys, they’re in control of your car, so it’s essential to take great care with them. Don’t flash them around in public and keep them secured as best as possible, even if that’s within your own house.
Hide Valuables
Leaving valuables on show in your car is giving criminals a motive to break in.
There’s no reason to break into a car unless you know there is some reward in it. If you can see a watch, laptop, cash, or whatever it might be, then you know there is some reward for taking the risk of breaking into the car.
By not keeping valuables in your car, you don’t give people an incentive to break into it and significantly reduce the chances that you’ll be targeted.
Upgrade Your Car Alarm
Thieves are always getting more sophisticated, but so too is the technology we use to protect our cars. If you’ve got an older car, then it might be worth investing in a more up to date alarm, because they do act as a good deterrent.
You can even get alarms which send notifications to your phone, so there’s plenty of technology out there to help secure your car. When you combine this with other gadgets such as GPS tracking, you’re making the lives of would-be thieves that much more difficult.
It’s all about deterrents, so make sure you’re paying attention to your car’s security.
