4 Homemade Dog Food Recipes That You and Your Dog Will Love
It is common knowledge among all dog owners that store-bought dog food just isn’t up to scratch when it comes to wholesome nutrients for their pooch’s well being. Although the government requires all dog food to be fit for human consumption there are limited people I know who would gladly tuck into a tin of Butchers Complete, and this feeling must apply to our canines too. Homemade dog food recipes however, are known to eliminate all the risks of pesticides and chemicals which you commonly find on the back of the tin. So, to aid your dog’s nutrition and overall happiness, you will learn from the recipes below that gourmet dishes do exist in a dog’s world.
Check out these four dog friendly meals below:
1. Brown Rice, Veggies, and Turkey
Did you know that dogs improve human health in at least 9 different ways? To repay them, serve a meal that makes a great side dish for even the pickiest human. Add a little salt to yours and leave your furry friend’s as is for a healthy meal for both of you. Just cook and prepare the following ingredients in a pot and you’re good to go:
3 cups of brown rice
2 tablespoons of olive oil
6 pounds of ground turkey
6 cups of chopped baby spinach
4 shredded carrots
2 zucchinis
1 cup of canned or frozen peas
2. Peanut Butter Cookies
What we see as a quick and easy snack, a dog would consider their, and it’s healthy for them. Dogs love peanut butter, and they thrive on the protein and oils it provides. The cookies also contain oats and fish oil, both of which are great for dogs. Make them using the following ingredients, place them on a cookie sheet, and cook in the oven at 375 degrees:
4 cups of flours
2 cups rolled oats
2/3 cup peanut butter (smooth not chunky)
2 tablespoons honey
1 tablespoon fish oil
3 cups of water
3. Fruit and Veggie Strips
You know those expensive organic chewy snacks you see in pet stores? This recipe is like that but better and more affordable. If you’re a veggie lover this might be your favourite on the list. Simply mash and roll the following ingredients into a soft dough, slice into strips, and bake in the oven at 350 degrees:
2 sweet potatoes
2 bananas
2 cups of carrots
1 cup applesauce (unsweetened)
4 cups whole wheat flour
2 cups rolled oats
2/3 cup water
4. Chicken Casserole
Finally, why not top the list off with something that could easily double as a main entree on any given night of the week? This chicken casserole might just be good enough to make the menu at most restaurants, so you and your dog will surely find it to be a treat. Cook the chicken breasts in a skillet on medium until there is no pink left in the middle (if it’s just for the dog you can leave it raw), add it to a pot with the rest of the ingredients below, and let it cook for about 15-20 minutes.
8 chicken breasts
1 cup of chopped green beans
1 cup of chopped carrots
1 cup of chopped broccoli
1 cup of rolled oats
8 cups of chicken broth
And there you have it. Which one of these will you be cooking up first?

I just found out my dog has a chicken allergy. I didn’t even know dogs could be allergic to that. I finally found a good food for her. It’s so hard making sure there is no eggs or chicken meat in treats, so I make them at home. I hear green beans are good for dogs too.

These all sound very good. Do you recommend supplements like vitamins or minerals in addition to the recipes? Thanks!
