11 Yummy Ideas for Cooking Lobster

Lobster is a seafood favorite. But, with such high prices, it’s hard to justify cooking lobster on a regular basis. The good news is that lobster can be used in a variety of recipes so you can enjoy it any time!

Here are 11 ideas for cooking lobster.

1. Keep them cold until you’re ready to cook them

Don’t store your lobsters in room temperature before you’re going to cook them. Lobsters are cold water creatures, so it’s best to keep them in a cool place until you’re ready. A cooler or refrigerator works great for this. Put some ice packs or frozen water bottles in there to keep the lobsters chilled until you’re ready for them. 2. Steaming

Steamed lobster is the healthiest way to enjoy this crustacean. It’s also the easiest — just add water to the pot and bring to a boil. Add live lobsters and steam for about 10 minutes for a 1½-pound lobster or 12 minutes for a 2-pounder.

3. Boiling

Boiling lobster is similar to steaming, but you can also add spices like salt or herbs like thyme to season the water. The advantage of boiling is that you can also use the water to make a tasty stock for soup or broth. Boil for about 10 minutes for a 1½-pound lobster or 12 minutes for a 2-pounder.

4. Lobster Hushpuppies

This recipe calls for using the lobster tail and claw meat, but if you don’t have those on hand (or the budget), swap in precooked lobster pieces.

5. Grilled Lobster with Basil Butter and Parmesan

If you’re grilling out with friends, why not toss some lobsters onto the grill? Just don’t forget to make extra basil butter for dipping!

6. Lobster Benedict

You can use claw, tail or precooked lobster for this recipe. But if you’re feeling fancy, try making your own hollandaise sauce!

7. Soup

Lobster goes well in soup too. You can use the same salad recipe, but instead of using lettuce substitute broccoli or cauliflower as the base of your soup. Add some cilantro on top for a delicious flavor! And feel free to add extra vegetables to make this meal even healthier!

8. Lobster Thermidor

The classic lobster dish, lobster thermidor is one of the finest lobster dishes you can cook. It’s no surprise that it’s a staple in many upscale French restaurants, as this decadent dish combines the perfect blend of cognac, mustard and cheese. It’s also made with a sauce made from the eggs of the lobster itself. This is a great dish for any special occasion or romantic dinner.

9. Lobster Salad

One great way to enjoy your favorite shellfish is in a salad – and there are tons of different ways you can prepare it. You could either have a traditional green salad with some chopped up bits of lobster meat on top (that’s been lightly sauteed), or you can go all out with something like Lobster Cobb Salad if you want to make something truly decadent and full-flavored.

10. Grilled Lobster

Grilling is a great way to cook lobster because it gives it a subtle smoky flavor that is usually only present when you eat lobster at a restaurant. It’s also one of the easiest ways to prepare lobster because you don’t have to worry about boiling or steaming it — just leave the shell on and throw it right on the grill.

11. Lobster Risotto

Risotto is an Italian dish that is made with rice and various types of cheeses, vegetables, and meats. It’s a relatively simple dish to make, but it’s very tasty and elegant enough to serve at special occasions or dinner parties. Pair it with some sautéed asparagus and you have a delicious meal that tastes like it came from a restaurant.
