10 Pre-Selling Preparations to Make Before You Sell Your Home
Are you getting ready to sell your home? If so, you’re likely excited and a little nervous all at the same time. Of course, it’s natural to feel this way – after all, selling your home is a huge decision! But don’t worry – we’re here to help. In this blog post, we will discuss ten preparations that you can make before selling your home. By following these tips, you’ll be able to make the process as smooth and stress-free as possible.
Clean Your Home From Top to Bottom
This one is a no-brainer. One of the most important things you can do before selling your home is to clean it from top to bottom. This means scrubbing all of the floors, walls, and ceilings, cleaning the windows, and thoroughly vacuuming and dusting everything. A clean home shows potential buyers that you have taken care of your property and that it is in good condition.
Declutter Your Home
Another critical step in preparing to sell your home is decluttering it. Get rid of any unnecessary items – including clothes, toys, furniture, etc. – so that your home looks spacious and inviting. Potential buyers will be able to visualize themselves living in your home if it is free of clutter.
Depersonalize Your Home
This one can be hard, but it’s essential. When potential buyers walk through your home, you want them to focus on the property itself, not your personal belongings. This means removing all your family photos, souvenirs, and other decorations. You’ll make it easier for buyers to imagine themselves living in your home by doing so.
Stage Your Home
If you want to maximize the sale price of your home, consider staging it. This involves decorating it with furniture and accessories that will make it look attractive to potential buyers. Home staging can be expensive, but it’s often worth the investment – especially if you’re trying to sell your home quickly.
Repair Any Damage
Before putting your home on the market, take a good look at it and repair any damage that you find. This may include fixing broken tiles, repainting walls, or replacing damaged flooring. A fresh coat of paint is always an excellent way to give your home a new look – and it doesn’t have to be an expensive undertaking. Choose a light, neutral color that will appeal to as many people as possible. Potential buyers will be less likely to want to buy a home that needs a lot of repairs, and you’ll save yourself the hassle of negotiating repair costs with them later on.
Get Rid of Pets
If you have pets, it’s important to get them out of the house before showing them to potential buyers. Pets can be a big turnoff for some people, so it’s best to remove all traces of them from your home before showing it. Then, you can either put them in a kennel or have a friend or family member take them for the day.
Make Your Home Smell Fresh and Clean
Another way to make your home more appealing to potential buyers is to make sure it smells fresh and clean. This means opening all of the windows, using air fresheners, and taking out any garbage. You may also want to consider baking cookies or bread before showings so that your home has a pleasant smell when potential buyers walk in.
Turn On All The Lights
When showing your home to potential buyers, be sure to turn on all of the lights so that they can see everything clearly. A well-lit home looks more inviting and makes it easier for buyers to see the potential of your property.
Make Sure The Temperature Is Comfortable
You’ll also want to make sure that the temperature in your home is comfortable before showings. Nobody wants to walk into a hot or cold house – so be sure to adjust the thermostat accordingly.
Remove Your Personal Belongings
The final step in preparing to sell your home is removing all of your personal belongings from it. This includes storing them away in boxes or getting rid of them altogether. By doing this, you’ll make your home look more spacious and inviting to potential buyers. And who knows? You may even find yourself starting to pack up some of your things as you get ready to move!
Now that you know the basics of preparing to sell your home, it’s time to get started on it! Follow these tips, and you’ll be well on your way to a successful sale. Good luck!

As a Realtor®, I agree with these points. About making your home smell fresh and clean, do not overdo it! If a buyer walks in and we smell “too much” fragrance, we wonder what the seller is trying to cover up. If there is a plug-in style oil diffuser in each and every room, it will scare buyers off.
