Why pick a ruby engagement ring?
An engagement ring is a big deal; it is one of the most important purchases you can make. After all, it needs to symbolise your love for that special someone; it needs to be something that they love in return; and you want it to be a stunning piece of jewelry. Sure, that sounds like a really big ask; and of course it can seem overwhelming. I’m here to tell you that it doesn’t have to be difficult. There is no need to worry; you’ve already taken the first step to educating yourself in the engagement ring department – you’re here after all.
There are many different types of engagement rings you can choose from. You’ve got the traditional diamond ring, and then there are the many different gemstone rings you can choose from. Today, I’m going to help you explore the realm of ruby engagement rings. ring
A bit about the ruby gemstone
The red colored gemstone that we know as the ruby derives its name from the Latin word for red ‘ruben’. It is a very durable, strong, and hard stone. It registers as 9.0 on the Mohs scale, putting it only slightly under the hardest stone – the diamond. A 9.0 makes the ruby a great every day wear stone, as it is very difficult to damage or crack.
The ruby is part of the Corundum family. Another member of said family is the sapphire. They are actually very similar stones. The only difference between the sapphire and the ruby is that the ruby is exclusively red, and the sapphire can be different colors. Safe to say the Corundum family is an attractive family, and a great pool to choose from for an engagement ring.
Symbolism of the ruby
Due to its color, the ruby is the go-to gemstone to symbolize love and passion. It’s of course a great choice then if that is what you want your engagement ring to signify – and frankly who wouldn’t?! Love isn’t all that the ruby symbolizes. It is also said to help the wearer by guiding them in life; to give the wearer the ability to make good decisions. Just another reason why a ruby ring is a fantastic choice for an engagement ring, as it can guide the wearer through married life.
The ruby is also the birthstone of July; making it a great choice to give to those who were born then.
It’s unique and rare
The ruby is an extremely rare gemstone, making it the perfect stone to be included in an engagement ring. By proposing with a ruby ring you are implying that that person is just as rare to come by – making it the ultimate romantic gesture. You could add to the rarity by sourcing a one off antique ruby ring, you also may find you get more ruby for your £ when you opt for an antique stone.
A ruby engagement ring is a non-traditional choice for an engagement ring, and that isn’t a bad thing. The traditional engagement ring choice is the diamond ring, making the ruby ring a more unique choice. The ruby engagement ring is therefore a great option for those who like a bit more color; who love a statement option; and like to move away from the ‘traditional’ options in life.
The ruby engagement ring then is special, unique, durable, strong, and extremely romantic. A ruby ring is therefore a great contender for an engagement ring.

I wasn’t aware that precious stones belong to families so does that make the sapphire and ruby cousins? Anyway, it is great to know the background information on the ruby. My next engagement ring should be conflict free.

I love the idea of a ruby engagement ring. I am already married, but I went pretty non-traditional with my rings as well. I love the color, and ruby is my birth stone as well.

I never knew there was so much behind the ruby. While it doesnt look like I’m getting married anytime soon, the ring looks great

I love a ruby stone. I have a ring with a ruby in it but my engagement ring was pink quartz. I like a non-traditional approach to rings.

I love rubies, and would love to have ruby rings. I already have some ruby jewelers.
