Ways to Correctly Get Mail Forwarding

While it may seem as though it is very simple at first, trying to utilize USPS mail forwarding services can very quickly become a nightmare when you combine it with all of the other tasks that are required in order for you to have a successful move.  Besides needing to select the correct form and calculate when it is that you can actually expect to start receiving your mail, the entire process of trying to update your address can just plain be complicated.  Here is everything that you are going to need to know in order to correctly get your mail forwarded to a different address.

Which Mail Forwarding Form Should I Use?

When it comes to correctly setting up your mail forwarding service, you are going to need to be sure that you select the correct form to change your address.  Here are the three different types of mail forwarding forms that you can choose from and when to use each one.

*Just You are Moving:  This is going to be the form that is required to be filled out if you as an individual are moving, or if you have multiple people who are going to be moving to different areas.  Do you have roommates?  If so, you are each going to need to fill out this particular form if you want to receive any mail at your new address.

*Your Entire Family is Moving:  This is going to be the form that will need to be filled out when you have the entire household moving to the same address.  When you fill out this form, everybody who lives in the household will start to get their mail at the new address that has been listed on the form.  This is also going to be the absolute easiest way that you will be able to forward your entire family’s mail.

*You are a Business:  If you are a business and are moving to a new location, you are going to need to fill out a special form that is for businesses only.  The only catch is going to be that you must have the authority to authorize an actual change of address for the company in order to have the mail forwarded.

When Does Mail Forwarding Start?

After you have successfully submitted your change of address form, it is normal for the actual change of address to go through within a 7-10 business day period of time.  What this means is that if you are looking to start receiving your mail at your new address on the very first day that you move in, you are going to want to make sure that you have submitted the request a minimum of 7-10 business days before you are actually going to be moving.

When it comes to moving, it is already a hectic time.  But when you follow the tips that have been mentioned above in regard to changing your address, you will have no problem making sure that you don’t miss out on any of your mail.
