Is Hemp Oil Good For Dogs?

Sharing is caring!

Hemp oil is made from the seeds of the hemp plant and it is used in oil form for its nutritional values. Hemp oil is not psychoactive and will not give your dog the feeling of being high because it does not contain THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). Due to restrictions on testing animals, there are no canine trials for the use of hemp. There are, however, many human studies which have proven to be successful. Now, with hemp oil becoming more popular, more people are seeing how much it can benefit everyone, including man’s best friend. Hemp oil contains nutrients to help prevent disease that some dog foods lack.

What is the hemp plant?

While hemp and marijuana both come from the cannabis plant, hemp only contains marginal amounts of THC, the active ingredient that causes users to get high. The hemp plant dates back to 2800 BC in China, where the Chinese used its fibers to make rope, bags and medicine. Some popular forms of hemp include its seeds, butter, oil, milk and even wine! Hemp contains Gamma Lenolenic-Acid, a omega 6 fat nutrient that’s great for the health of dogs.

Benefits of hemp to your dog

Adding hemp to your dog’s diet can provide a number of health benefits. For one, it can help lower inflammation in your dog’s body. Additionally, it can ease pain as well as prevent certain illnesses like inflammatory bowel disease. It has also been known to fight cancer, improve canine skin by coating it to reduce joint pain. Hemp oil has also been known to strengthen the immune system of a canine. If a dog is high strung and has anxiety issues, hemp oil can help reduce them. It has been known to reduce seizures in adults and children who suffer from epilepsy. This is also true for dogs. Furthermore, if a dog is older and losing their appetite or constantly sick, hemp oil can reduce nausea and increase hunger. Hemp oil has also been known to lower blood pressure and even help with heart murmurs!

Portion

As it turns out, giving hemp to dogs is very beneficial for a multitude of reasons. It’s important to pay attention to how much and how it is cooked, however, because giving them too much oil can be problematic. Hemp goes well with dogs who eat red meats. Dogs who eat a lot of chicken are already getting a lot of fatty acids in their diet and would benefit more from flaxseed oil. Hemp oil is a polyunsaturated fat and can go bad when cooked. So, it’s important to make sure hemp oil is only added to a dog’s food after it is cooked. This ensures that a dog will reap the full benefits of the oil. The recommended dose is 1 tsp. for every 1 to 1.5 lbs. of food.

Hemp oil can be as good for humans as it is for dogs. In fact, many people use the same hemp oil for themselves as they do for their puppies. This is because both humans and dogs process hemp in the same manner, despite the recommended dosage being different. If used correctly, the benefits of using the oil are many. It is legal and can be purchased from online retailers like Hemp Health INC. Always look for pure products when searching for a hemp oil, and don’t look for the best price over the quality of the manufactured product. If your dog is already suffering from diabetes, arthritis or any other inflammatory issues like cancer, it is still advisable to give them hemp oil.
