How to Make Your Human Hair Extensions Last Longer?

Good-quality hair extensions make you look and feel better in just a few minutes. There are two main types of hair extensions, synthetic and human hair extensions. The latter looks more natural and is more durable.

Treat Your Hair Extension Right

Even the highest quality hair extensions need appropriate care. Remember that they cannot benefit from natural oils like your own locks. They must be cleaned, stored, and used carefully to look as good as new.

Listed below are some simple but effective tips to maintain the appearance and feel of your human hair extensions

1) Cleanse Your Extensions Regularly

It may not be necessary to cleanse your extensions after every use. But when you find the hair strands tangling or turning frizzy, consider washing them with a mild shampoo. Generally, people with oily scalp can consider cleaning their extensions after 3 to 4 washes. People with a dry scalp can clean them after 6-7 washes.

While washing the hair extensions, be gentle. Remember not to scrub the strips of the extensions, and only use premium or high-quality hair care products.

When you use styling products, hair coloring, or go swimming with extensions, wash them immediately.

2) Provide Proper Nourishment

Deep condition your hair extensions regularly. You may use a leave-in conditioner to avoid tangling. If you are styling your extensions with a hot iron, use heat protectant sprays. Heat can make the hair brittle and deteriorate its quality.

3) Careful Storage Is Mandatory

Proper storage is the simplest way to keep your human hair extensions intact for long. Remove your extensions carefully and ensure that the clips are always closed while storing them. Just brush them thoroughly and place them in a box or the cover that came along with the product.

Alternatively, you may also store them in an airtight container. The extensions must be stored in a dry place and kept out of direct sunlight. Also, make sure that they are 100% dry before storing them.

4) Brushing Your Extensions

Be gentle while brushing your extensions. Use specially designed combs to brush them regularly. Regular brushing prevents tangling. Tangle-free hair does not break easily and lasts longer. Never brush your hair when it is wet.

5) Use Adequately

Good quality human hair extensions feel very natural. Some women may go to sleep with their extensions. The friction between the pillow and the extension clips can damage the product and your natural hair.

The clips may loosen, and the extension may not fit in the way it is expected to. You must also try to avoid working out when wearing extensions. The excessive dirt and sweat can damage the hair and can cause bacterial growth if left unwashed. Also, excessive movements during a workout can damage the clips and cause tangling.

6) Avoid Too Many Products

Avoid using too many styling products on your extensions. Opt for shampoos and conditioners that are free from sulfates and alcohol. Take professional help when you plan to cut your extensions. Chopping off the extensions by yourself may not result in natural results.
