Katherine Roy is the creator of the Sibert Honor Book Neighborhood Sharks and, most recently, Making More. She lives in Corvallis, Oregon.

MY REVIEW

I cannot begin to tell you how much I adore this book. It is insanely beautiful and I will be purchasing a copy for my niece for the Holidays as she loves the wonders of the ocean and another copy for my daughter too. I have to tell you also that this book is such a blast to read aloud and I did so when reading to my daughter one night before bed. Simply put, without giving too much away, this book is an educational masterpiece that is equally beautiful in the way that it is written and via the beautiful illustrations found throughout. Sea Without A Shore shares with you how a simple piece of Sargassum weed creates a beautiful and complex ecosystem in the Sargasso Sea and I love how you learn all about the different species that benefit from this simple piece of seaweed and call it home, including 2 varieties that are only found in the Sargasso Sea. This book taught me so much as I had no idea that the Sargasso Sea was even a thing and I appreciate the author educating us on this important ecosystem that I knew nothing about. I did read somewhere near the end of the book that the Sargasso Sea is the ocean’s floating golden rainforest and that beautifully sums up what I learned and this is a must have for your child’s book collection for sure. Grab this one as a gift as the entire family will love it!
