Synopsis:

MUPPIT BOY IS BACK…AND THIS TIME, HE FLIES

Elmo Fitzroy, known worldwide as Muppit Boy, takes on a new alter ego in this latest adventure: Condor Kid! Revolutionary nanite technology has made Mo the world’s first superhero. That is, if he can learn to fly without faceplanting every time.

Hiding his superpowers from best friends Barney and Kashvi is harder than it looks in comic books, especially with someone as sharp as Kash. She doesn’t miss a trick, so after Condor Kid pulls off a dramatic rescue at a local carnival, Kash is hot on the trail of this new masked hero and determined to uncover his identity.

Meanwhile, athletic, overly energetic boys labeled ADHD by their schools are vanishing as part of a devious plot to make use of their competitive spirit. Mo’s boss, Oscar Silverman, assigns the case to Mo and his Big Brother mentor and spying partner, Ari. What the crime-fighting duo really needs is a hyper, athletic boy to go undercover. Unfortunately, everyone knows Muppit Boy is a nerd, not an athlete.

Can Mo save the lives of a hundred kidnapped kids from a scientist who’s exploiting them in the craziest scheme ever, or will he need help from the last person on earth he’d ever expect to work with?

MY REVIEW

Book Review: Muppit Boy and the Wheel of Power by Michael J. Bowler (Adventures of Muppit Boy Book 2)

When I finished Muppit Boy and the Allergies of Evil by Michael J. Bowler, I knew I wanted to spend more time with Mo Fitzroy and see where his story would take him next. So, when I had the chance to read Muppit Boy and the Wheel of Power, I was genuinely excited to jump back into his world! I always love when a book introduces me to characters I find myself rooting for, and Mo is definitely one of those characters. This sequel brings more adventure, unexpected twists, laugh-out-loud moments, and the heartfelt storytelling I enjoyed so much in the first book. I couldn’t wait to see what was in store for Mo this time around, and it was wonderful to continue his journey!

One of the things I love most about Mo is that even when extraordinary things happen to him, he still feels like a real kid. He is smart, awkward, funny, and sometimes unsure of himself, which makes him so easy to connect with. In this adventure, Mo finds himself with some pretty incredible new superpowers and a new alter ego, Condor Kid! Of course, having superpowers doesn’t automatically make life easier, especially when you are still trying to figure yourself out, keep secrets from your best friends, and learn how to handle everything that comes with being a superhero. I loved seeing Mo face these new challenges while still being the same lovable character I enjoyed in the first book.

The adventure in this sequel is every bit as creative and crazy as I hoped it would be! Between Mo learning to fly, trying to keep his identity a secret, and investigating the mysterious disappearance of boys who are often misunderstood because of their high energy and ADHD labels, there is always something happening. The story has plenty of suspense, unexpected turns, and moments that made me smile, and I really enjoyed how Bowler brings all these different elements together. It is the kind of book that keeps you turning the pages because you genuinely want to know what happens next!

What I especially appreciate about Michael J. Bowler’s writing is that underneath all the superhero action and humor, there is always something meaningful to take away from the story. Just like the first book, this sequel explores what it feels like to be different and how easy it can be for others to judge someone without really understanding them. I love that Mo’s story reminds readers that the things that make us stand out are not necessarily weaknesses. There is so much value in learning to appreciate our differences, recognizing our strengths, and giving others a chance to show who they really are. I think that message is especially important for middle schoolers and young readers who are still figuring out where they fit in.

I also enjoyed the way the friendships and relationships continue to develop in this book. Mo is still learning, growing, and making mistakes, which makes his journey feel genuine rather than making him a perfect hero who always gets everything right. The story also explores forgiveness, second chances, and looking beyond first impressions, which adds another layer of heart to all the action. I love when a book can entertain you while also giving you something to think about, and this one does exactly that!

By the end, I was so happy that I got to continue Mo’s story, and I am so glad I got to experience this next adventure! Muppit Boy and the Wheel of Power has everything I enjoyed about the first book, along with exciting new developments that make this sequel feel fresh and fun. Michael J. Bowler has created a character you want to root for, and I love that Mo’s journey is about so much more than having superpowers. It is about finding confidence, embracing who you are, and discovering that being a hero means caring about others just as much as it means being brave.

I would absolutely recommend this book to middle schoolers and beyond, especially readers who enjoy humor, mystery, superheroes, and stories with a whole lot of heart. If you loved the first Muppit Boy book, you will definitely want to pick up this incredible sequel! I am so glad I got to continue Mo’s story, and I love when a book leaves me smiling and wanting to see what happens next. This was such a fun continuation of the series, and I highly recommend adding it to your reading list!
