3 Hidden Reasons Why Your Knees Hurt

Knee pain is fairly common and can be associated with your general daily activities if you are active. Other causes may be that you are carrying a bit of extra weight which is adding pressure to your joints. Sometimes knee pain isn’t much cause for concern; however, there are times when you need to take a closer look for underlying issues that need to be addressed.

Apart from exercise, aging, or an injury, there are a few more serious reasons why your knees may be aching. If you are concerned about your pain or have noticed that it’s becoming more frequent, these three reasons could be your answer.

Excess Uric Acid

Uric acid is produced in your body when your system tries to break down purines. Purines are a naturally-occurring compound in your body, but some food and drinks and increase the levels. In this case, your body starts to build up too much uric acid, causing gout. Gout can come on all at once without warning, or it can gradually get worse.

The best way to treat this is to change your dietary habits to reduce the uric acid in your system. Gout causes red swelling around the affected area, and the pain can be extremely unforgiving. Your age and gender can also contribute to the development of gout; however, the cause may be that your kidneys aren’t effectively filtering out the uric acid.

Rheumatoid Arthritis

This form of arthritis is an autoimmune condition in which your body mistakenly attacks your body, causing joint inflammation, which results in pain. Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic and lifelong condition that can be extremely debilitating. Most people are only diagnosed in their mid-30s even though they have had the condition for some time.

It can take anywhere from a few years to a decade for the disease to progress to a point in which you start experiencing any tell-tale symptoms. Get yourself evaluated by a GP if the pain is accompanied by loss of mobility, swelling, and fatigue. You can alleviate most of your discomfort with knee pain physical therapy by visiting Knee Care Clinics, but it is a condition that needs to be managed with medication and lifestyle changes.

Limited Blood Supply

Anytime a section of your body is cut off from adequate blood circulation you need to address it immediately. The first symptom will be the worst pain of your life, followed by loss of movement and flexibility in the affected area.

One serious cause is osteonecrosis which is when your bone tissue begins to die from limited blood flow. This can be a result of a serious injury, and it progresses gradually. Luckily, this condition isn’t common, but if you have experienced trauma to your knee in the past, you need to get a medical opinion. Other causes may be that your clothes are too tight-fitting, or your veins aren’t constricting and dilating correctly.

Knee pain can impact your quality of life so you must address the issue sooner rather than later. Even if your knee pain isn’t a result of these three causes, long-term discomfort can result in other health conditions later on in life.
