Throughout the world, Milk is incredibly popular. It’s in a lot of our food and drink, and even in things like medicine. Milk has been a staple for many years partly because of it’s usefulness, and also partly due to it’s availability. Most of the milk drank in the Western World is cow’s milk. Cows are easy to farm and produce lots of the white stuff; so, it’s easy for us to get our hands on. Milk has a couple of problems, though. Even after years of drinking the stuff, you can develop an allergy to one of its key components.

Cow’s milk isn’t designed for human consumption. Instead, from the udder, it has the right levels of nutrients for a calf to grow. This means that cow’s milk has some chemicals in it that human’s aren’t really geared to consume. Key among these is a fat known as lactose. Lactose can be hard to break down, so a lot of animals struggle to do so. Of course, as this milk isn’t meant for us, it’s understandable that there’s some stuff in it that we can’t really deal with.

Most animals will be intolerant to lactose to a certain agree. And, the same can be said for humans. Most people don’t show any signs of this, as their intolerance is only mild. But, for others, milk can be very dangerous. This intolerance can grow over time, though. And, when this happens, you can start having reactions to milk. At first, it is very hard to know where these symptoms come from. You will probably have issues passing stools, and may even feel sick. If you notice changes like this, it’s best to see a doctor as soon as possible.

For a lot of people, this developing intolerance can be a real struggle. A lot of us drink milk on a daily basis, multiple times. It’s in our hot drinks, meals, and most chocolates. So, it’s pretty hard to avoid. A doctor will have some great advice for you. But, most of it will simply involve avoiding certain things. This doesn’t have to be the case, though. There are a few solutions which you might find quite successful.

As milk is a fat, it can be broken down. Once it’s broken down, it won’t make a difference to our bodies. A chemical that can do this has been isolated and put into the form of tablets. These tablets can be applied to a bottle of regular milk, and it will become essentially lactose-free. Of course, you have to obtain these tablets, though. In some places, this will only be possible through a doctor. In others, you may be able to buy them online or in store. These tablets will always take some time, though. So, you might want something a little faster.

For those who want their milk right now, it can be best to buy a product off the shelf. Thankfully, you have a few options when it comes to this. You can get regular cow’s milk, which has been treated just like you can do at home. The only difference is that this milk has been tested to make sure that it is 100% free from lactose. For people who suffer severe reactions, this can be a great benefit. This is probably the most popular product you can get to solve the lactose problem. It tastes just like regular milk, and will only be a fraction more expensive.

Veganism is becoming increasingly popular. So, to give people with these diets something to use in place of cow’s milk, companies have developed several substitutes which can work quite well. Almond milk is very popular for tea and coffee drinkers. When it’s in a hot drink, it acts and tastes exactly like milk. Soya milk is also very popular. This sort of milk doesn’t taste quite like milk, but it really good for you. As a very easy and natural alternative, a lot of people also use coconut milk. These products will usually cost more than regular milk, but they won’t have any of the problems that lactose brings.

Lactose-free products come in loads of forms; not just milk. You can get butter, cream, and loads of other products without the bad stuff. This makes it much easier to live a life free from lactose. And, makes it possible for some people to live at all. Living with something like this doesn’t have to be hard. You just have to be open-minded when it comes to choosing your food and drinks. Once you know what to buy, everything will be much easier.

This was very interesting and packed with information I did not know about cows milk. I really appreciate you sharing this with us. God Bless

  2. I don’t tolerate lactose well and I don’t drink cow milk, or ice-cream made with cow milk. I do get away with some cheeses. I have switched to Almond Milk and I love it. It has made my stomach so much happier and allows me to still have most foods that I love.
