- Excessive Alcohol
Alcohol dehydrates your body. This dehydration causes wrinkles and line to deepen in your face. Alcohol limits the amino acid absorption and also makes it harder for your body to metabolize other fatty acids. Alcohol damages the small blood vessels located near the nose and eyes causing the skin to be “flushed” and have broken veins. Excessive alcohol consumption also leads to poor food choices which will acerbate the aging process.
- Poor Nutrition
Skin is the body’s largest organ, and is constantly repairing and regenerating itself. A poor diet, or one that contains too much sugar, saturated fats, and sodium can cause the connective tissue of the skin to become rigid and lose its elasticity. Improper nutrition can also lead to many health issues such as high blood pressure, diabetes and certain cancers.
WAYS TO REVERSE THE SIGNS OF AGING
- Use Sunscreen Everyday
Sunscreen with an SPF of 35 or higher, used daily, has been proven to stop the aging process in skin. It is also recommended that you avoid the peak UV ray times of day during 10 am to 2 pm and protect the face’s delicate skin by wearing a wide-brimmed hat.
- Do Not Smoke
If you’re not a smoker, never become one. If you are currently a smoker, quit. It’s never too late to quit, and there are many resources out there to assist you.
- Limit Alcohol Consumption
It is recommended that women consume no more than 1 alcoholic beverage daily – the limit is 2 daily for men.
- Eat a Healthy Diet
A balanced diet that is low in saturated fats, sugar and sodium, has been proven to help aging skin. Replace processed foods with whole grains and fiber rich fruits and vegetables.
