I’m a Single Working Professional; is a Pet Dog a Good Choice For Me?

If you are a busy person, running a full-time job as well as a home, then you might find the idea of getting a pet dog an impossibility. How would you fit it all in? But as a working professional, you can still be in a good place to care for your pet. You will be able to provide for them, and they will be able to give you some companionship and an uplift in your life. As long as you are willing to create a great lifestyle for your pet, then it is possible to make it all work. Here are the best ways to care for your dog when you are working out of the home five days a week.

Arrange a Visitor in the Day

Dogs can get a little distressed if they are left alone for too long in the day. Not to mention the fact they if you leave them at home, they need to be outside to go to the bathroom. But you wouldn’t want to just leave them outside all day either. So you need to arrange someone to come and visit them on the days that you work. It might be a friend or neighbor that has some spare time to pop over to your house. It might even be worth considering getting a professional dog walker in, from somewhere like Jim’s Dog Wash. They will know just how to care for your pet dog and make sure that they get a lot of love and attention.

Schedule Dog Walks

Scheduling dog walks depending on the size and breed of your dog, will depend on how often they need to be walked. But every dog will need to be walked at least once a day. When you are busy, you will need to schedule in the time to do it. It might work out better for you to do it early in the morning before going to work. Late at night might be the preference instead. You just need to decide when will be best for you and for your pet. It could also be the case that you call in a dog walker for a walk in the day if you just don’t think there is any other way around it. As long as your dog is getting outside each day, then they will be happy and healthy.

Get Toys and Playthings

It is recommended to not leave dogs for more than four hours. But in the meantime, they can do things to entertain themselves. They might rest, but they also might need some fun things to play with. Some chew toys, as well as rag toys or squeaky toys are a great idea. Then they can at least play as they wait for you. Having some snacks that they can grab is a good idea, as well as access to clean water to drink. Over time they will get used to you being away each day for a certain amount of time. But having toys and playthings will make the process much easier for you both.

There are so many things to consider when getting a dog. Recently, we attempted to bring a puppy into our home. He is adorable and smart as a whip. Ultimately we had to re-home him with our son. The puppy will now be around people that are young and energetic. We learned that being “old coggers” having a young puppy is not in the cards for us. Thankfully, we had someone that was willing to accept the responsibility.

My SIL had a dog for years as a single working professional. She actually put her in doggy day care while she was working!

Dogs are wonderful companions. I don’t know what I would do without mine. They are so much company and love you unconditionally. This was a great article. Thank you so much for sharing

I have a dog and I work often. Honestly, now that I have my dog, I don’t know how I would live without him! He gets regular exercise everyday but its at a minimum on the days I work. So, on my days off we go to the dog park for sometimes up to two hours a day three days a week to make up for the rest of the week. He loves his dog park days and he is a very well balanced boy!
