Amwell ~ Quality Online Doctors Visits For Busy Families! #MOMSLOVEAMWELL

It is no secret that I have had a crazy year this year. Anyone that knows me has heard all about it. My family has been plagued with tons of health issues and I have been running my mom and dad around regularly, to and from doctors appointments. Once everything seemed to calm down and my parents were in good health, I was ready to get back into my regular routine. Finally 🙂  I have been trying to make the most of my daughter’s summer vacation and selected a gorgeous and hot day to go to the beach. It was a fabulous day for sure until my daughter got a little too much sun, even after using tons of sunscreen. We got home and she took a cool shower, applied some aloe to her skin and laid down to rest as she was really tired and hot. It really is no biggie right? Wrong… she broke out with a horrible rash on her shoulders, so I decided to take a preventative course of action and contacted a Doctor through Amwell to help me figure out my next course of action when it came to my daughters health and well being. It was not a major emergency and I did not feel like spending hours running to and from the doctors office as well as waiting in the waiting room for who knows how long….. which is what truly makes American Well (Amwell) so amazing. With the crazy busy lives we live today. It is no secret that time is of the utmost importance and a visit from home via my computer was the way to go.

Real quick, let me tell you a little about Amwell.  Amwell is the nation’s largest telehealth company, connecting its users with board-certified, licensed doctors, dieticians, lactation consultants and psychologists for immediate and live, online visits. You can visit anytime of the day or night via either your mobile phone or desktop computer. Some of the general reasons people use Amwell for the convenience of a doctors visit at home are….. minor illnesses and injuries, general health and wellness concerns, prescription refills and chronic condition management. Amwell employs primary care, specialist physicians, licensed behavioral therapists and registered dieticians to meet their patients’ health and wellness needs. Their doctors are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week and are truly dedicated to keeping you and your family healthy. It does not get any better than that for convenience and quality care in the comfort of your own home.

Now back to the issue at hand which is what to do about my daughter’s sunburn accompanied by a rash on her shoulders? The picture above is the pic I used for my virtual visit in order to show the doctor what the rash looked like. I simply chatted with the online doctor about the issue on my home computer and it was super easy and simple. When you schedule your online visit you are able to choose from a list of available doctors as well as view their profiles to make sure they are the perfect match for your needs. My wait time was between 5 to 10 minutes and I used the time to organize my desk area while I waited. Once the doctor was available to see me… the web camera opened up and I was able to see the doctor via my computer. We chatted and I told her about the visit to the beach and the sunburn accompanied by a rash. She asked a few questions and gave me instructions on how to treat it from home, and also let me know that if it did happen to get worse and the symptoms did not go away within a few days, to visit my daughter’s local doctor. I was already applying cool rags to her shoulders and applying aloe to relieve the sunburn pain as well but as advised by my online doctor, I added in a dose of Tylenol to relieve the pain and made sure she stayed out of the sun and/or was covered properly when we did have to go outside. Sure enough…. the rash subsided and her burn turned to a tan and then peeled… but she was OK and no longer in any pain after 1 to 2 days. The advice the doctor gave me was spot on and I loved saving a trip to the doctors office all while being provided amazing care from the comfort of my home. It truly saved me time and money.

I’m not sure about this,,,as a retired nurse I just don’t see how you can properly treat a patient without touching them

What a great idea for when you are on holiday and not sure if you need to go into the doctor or not.

interesting idea since i hate having to do and wait at the doctor, once they even forgot we were in a room and left us waiting for hours! yuck!

After reading your review and then watching the video I was both pleased and interested.
Firstly I’d like to say I’m glad your daughter is feeling better and it wasn’t something more serious. Now, I think this type of care is great for people who need good sound answers and help with their health. What helps it even more is the fact that if you were to take yourself or your child to the doctor for something like a rash from the sun there’s unfortunately the possible side effect from doctors appointments. Your daughter wasn’t sick with a cold or anything like that but many of the other people in the waiting room of doctors offices are sick with things like colds. Those colds are easily spread, especially by children, and since you didn’t take her to the doctors office for the rash she didn’t have the chance of catching the other children’s’ germs and getting a summer cold herself. That is one of the other benefits of this service. I’m glad there’s such a service and it’s more cost effective than some people realize. Not only did she get treated for what was wrong but she also stayed away from the summer cold germ frenzy that lives in a pediatricians waiting room.

This is defintily something I have to check into for my mom. She is a shut-in (I am the caregiver), and cannot leave the house to visit the doctor. It’s a very frustrating situation. (Not to mention dangerous for her health). I am going to discuss it with her tomorrow….this looks the solution to our problem. So hard when a parent gets really old and ill, and can’t go out!!! : (

  • Deborah D

I think this is an awesome program. I also think that there is still a need for people to actually see the doctor in person.

  • Margot C

I think this is a great concept. There are so many things that could be dealt with that way.

  • Terri S

It sounds like an amazing idea but I think I’m a little to old fashion or maybe just a little too much of a nervous nelly…I like to actually see the dr in person.

  • Cindy S.

Wow…This sounds so convenient. I would LOVE this service. Sometimes things happen at odd times and it is hard to get in to see the Dr. I will be looking into this service for sure.

  • molli taylor

  • Barbara Mayes

I think this a wonderful service to have available when I need to *see* someone quickly. What a great use of technology, and affordable too.

I’m not sure if I could do this my self, for others esp. working and with kids. I’m a diabetic and have several issues it caused and must have Blood + other test every 6 months. Thanks for sharing I’ll past it on to anyone with kids/

This is Great!! Its like having a Dr in the House! There are a lot of non emergency type maladies that strike all the time. Especially when you have children. I really think this service could help a lot of Families save time and money!! Thank You for sharing..

This looks like a great program. I would much rather consult a professional online than wait for hours at a medical clinic. Non-emergencies happen all the time for me.
