4 Dangerous things that could be hiding in your tap water

For most of us growing up, drinking water straight from the garden hose is a fond memory. Unfortunately, these days it can be more of a nightmare. A current study by the CDC found that nearly 11% of water in the U.S. does not meet EPA standards for safety. What is most disturbing about this report is it does not include over 202 chemicals found in drinking water that were not included in this report. For more information, read this. After reading this article, you probably want to search for the best water filters on the planet!

Cryptosporidium

Cryptosporidium is a parasite that attaches itself to your small intestine. Once there it can at minimum give you’re a couple weeks of stomach cramps and diarrhea, and at worse be life threatening, if not properly treated.

Giardia

Another parasite responsible for cramps, bloating, and diarrhea, Giardia, is predominate amongst waterborne diseases, according to Mayo Clinic research. To read the full article, click here.

Lead

We all know how dangerous lead is. Although the EPA and local municipals are making a concerted effort to reduce the amount of lead found in drinking water, your home’s piping system may be the main culprit. Older homes use piping and solder that may contain lead, and as water moves and sits through these pipes, the lead integrates into your drinking water supply.

Asbestos

Asbestos was used in the making of the cement pipes that provide water to cities nationwide. The older these pipes get and the more corroded they become, the more of this toxic mineral is dispersed into our drinking water. Although most city’s water supplies contain less asbestos than the EPA would deem a health hazard, it’s interesting to note that if such an occurrence were to happen, the water supply would not be such down, but a notice would be issued 30 days later. Asbestos is no joke; it used to be used in so many industries, and can lead to life threatening diseases like cancer, especially for airforce veterans asbestos exposure is an issue. Military engineers before the 1980s will have had huge exposure to it, making them one of the most at risk sectors of society. It’s worrying to think that despite the recent ban, it could still be hiding in all sorts of places, ready to be accessed by any of us, I don’t know how I’d feel about getting a notice that I’ve been drinking it for 30 days. In light of this, services like Asbestos Removal Austin TX are essential, offering professional asbestos abatement to ensure the safety and well-being of the community.
